[...] We recently reported on the increased appearance of creative trademarks for wine, based on applications to the Canadian Trade-marks Registrar over the last few months. Thanks to the creative talents of wine marketing trendsetters like B.C.’s own Bernie Hadley-Beauregard of Brandever Strategies, this movement appears to be continuing. [...]

[...] A review of recent Canadian trade-mark filings indicates that some real estate developers in Canada are choosing to protect as trade-marks, not only their company or business names, but also the marks they have chosen for individual developments. Reflecting a more conservative industry, these trade-marks are not as edgy or creative as some of the new wine industry trademarks. However, in a competitive marketplace, this may change as developers start to see the benefits of distinguishing their projects from those of the competition and targetting specific categories of brand-conscious prospective buyers. [...]

This is a great list Larry. I can imagine those in the Wine business finding it very valuable for tracking what's coming 'down the pipe'.

Creative branding, yes, and perhaps a competitive intelligence angle too -- further evidence of increased market pressure from Australia? I suppose we could go down to our local wine shop and figure that one out :-)... though it is an interesting technique to know what one's competitors are up to.
