Domain Tasting Proposal Passed by ICANN’s GNSO Council

As an update to an earlier post, ICANN’S GNSO Council has passed a resolution that could end domain tasting.  As reported earlier, under the policy, any gTLD operator that has implemented an add grace period (“AGP”) would be prohibited from offering a refund for any domain name deleted during the AGP that exceeds 10% of its net new registrations for a month, or 50 domain names, whichever is greater. The policy also provides that an operator may seek an exemption for a particular month, upon documented showing of extraordinary circumstances. ICANN staff will monitor implementation and execution of the recommendations.

The resolution will now be discussed by the ICANN Board and is to be adopted unless at least 2/3 of the ICANN Board votes against it.
